Updates from Kitale, Kenya (COA/WR)

Hey y’all!

It’s Hunter! I just wanted to take some time to update everyone with how our ministry has been going and provide some updates regarding our team, ministry and things that God has been teaching me. Are you ready? Then let’s make like a pool and dive on in!

As you might have seen within the title of this post, we are now in a different location. Last week, we ended our time in Bungoma and travelled up to a place called Kitale. We had one of our awesome squad leaders, Elora, join us for the final week that we were in Bungoma and for the trip up to Kitale. While here in Kitale, we are still working with the church (specifically in Bikeke Village). Ministry looks the same in which we are going throughout the village, sharing about Jesus and encouraging both believers and non-believers.

Although we’ve only been here in Kitale (and specifically Bikeke Village) for a few days, we’ve already gotten the opportunity to do some radical things such as leading people to Christ and baptizing a family (with a water bottle) which has been so cool! Today has been our Sabbath rest and tomorrow we prepare for our first evening service in Kitale as well as preparing for some additional ministry opportunities this weekend.

In this past week, the Lord has really been working on my heart in a number of ways such as learning what it means to be vulnerable even while in a place of hurt. In addition, God is teaching me new things about his way of doing things as well as prayer. Something that I’ve been learning that I’d like to share is this:

“Prayer is more about us learning the will of the Father than God hearing our will and desires. The purpose of prayer is not to get God to see our perspective, but to come to understand his and align our hearts with his.”

For me, I’ve often times come to God telling Him what I want him to do for me. However, as I’m learning, it’s not about what I want or what I think is best, but rather, placing myself in a position of humility and trust, trusting that God knows better than I do. For I look through a partial lens, but God sees it all. He knows how to make the broken beautiful and how to bring purpose to the pain. So with that, I encourage you to ask yourself, “What is the purpose for why I pray?”

Finally, just keep all our squad in your prayers as different teams of our squad have been facing illnesses and injury. So much prayer would be requested. Thank you all! Love you guys! And I hope to hear from you all!
